Sindhu Darshan Festival- Leh

Sindhu Darshan Festival- Leh

Many Rivers in the world have played a significant role in the evolution, sustaining and development of various civilizations. These rivers are catalyst in the growth and development of the area. The Sindhu Darshan festival as the name suggests is a celebration of River Sindhu which is also known as Indus River. The festival is organized in the Leh the capital of Ladakkah which is one of the major tourist attractions of Jammu & Kashmir. People come here from far off places for Darshan and Puja of the River Sindhu which originates from the Mansarovar in Tibet. The festival is a celebration that aims at projecting it as a symbol of multi dimensional cultural identity, and prosperity. The festival offers the visitors to come to the beautiful regions of Leh - Ladakh and explore it form the close corners.

The spirit and message of the Sindu Darshan Movement is to project the Indus as a symbol of communal harmony of India and a symbolic salute to its brave soldiers. Troupes from different Indian states where the mighty River of India runs brought with them the water from those rivers in earthier pots and immersed the pots in the Indus, there by mingling the waters from all over India with the Mighty Indus River that gave India its name. The festival of Sindhu Darshan also aims at promoting tourism in this remote region and contributing towards the economic well being of its people. Sindhu Darshan festival was first organized in October in 1997 and till now it is celebrated with great fan fare. The Prime Minister laid the foundation stone of the Sindhu Cultural Center last year and also inaugurated the new office complex of Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council to promote the tourism in the state.
